The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge will delay opening each day for at least a week while hunters harvest nuisance alligators.

The recreational areas of the refuge that spans about 26 miles of the coast of Cameron and Vermilion parishes will not open until 10am each day beginning Wednesday, September 7th. The delayed opening time is expected to last seven days, or at least until alligator trappers have filled their allotted tags.

Visitors to Rockefeller are reminded that the area closes at sunset each day.
