Today is June 1, which marks the start of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. I don't know if anyone told Mother Nature that though, because she started early this year.

We have already had two named storms in the Atlantic, with both of them being located right off of the coast of South and North Carolina. Their names were Arthur and Bertha.

There is a disturbance crossing over the Yucatan right now which was the left-overs of a storm that formed in the Pacific Ocean. The disturbance is expected to move into the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico later today in the Bay of Campeche.

Forecasters are giving it a 70% chance of forming into the next tropical system. If it does, the next name on the list will be Cristobal. They are saying if the disturbance moves over this area, conditions are just right for the new storm to form. Where it will go is the next question.

As of right now, there is no forecast track or location, so we just need to keep an eye on things and make sure you are prepared even if this system becomes no threat to Southwest Louisiana.

Since today starts the hurricane season, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and start getting your supplies together just to be prepared. I mean, we have already had two named storms before the 2020 hurricane season started, so this might be an active year.

Better to be safe than sorry.
