With hurricane season beginning on June 1, many are speculating that things could get started a little sooner, as early as May 15 in some opinions. Let me be the first to tell you that while I understand we are almost in the midst of hurricane season, I am not looking forward to it.

There is already talk that this season could be worse than last year, and we have endured so much here in Lake Charles and neighboring parishes. The last thing we need is another uproar as our city is slowly building back up. I believe it could take well over another year before things are back to normal. While we have no control over the weather, it is truly best that we all prepare and make sure we are ready for whatever is to come.

Hurricane season won't officially be over until November 30, which means this could really be a rough season for us all. I was here August 27 when Laura hit and was followed by Delta less than two months later. At the end of the day, all we can truly do is be prepared. That means stashing back a little money for gas and lodging. Get with your friends and family just in case you'll need to make lodging arrangements in the event of a storm. We are resilient people here in Lake Charles, but I know none of us want to go through what we dealt with last year.
