The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) made an announcement that they have retired the name Laura from their Atlantic hurricane name index.

The WMO will also be retiring the names Dorian, Eta, and Iota. The storms were removed for the damage they caused.

The Greek alphabet will be retired as well. The WMO says it's confusing and distracting to weather watchers tracking storms during the season.

I, for one, hope this upcoming hurricane season is a slow one for SWLA and Louisiana as a whole. We need at least a few more years until we get another storm. Living on the Gulf coast, we know hurricanes are a way of life. However, we've had our fair share and need a break.
