What Happens When FEMA Can’t Reach You
Stay in touch with FEMA if you made a claim. It’s up to you to make sure they have your latest contact number or current address, even if it's not your main residence. FEMA wants all applicants to know that in order to complete your application, they may need additional information or to make an appointment to come see damaged property.
If they can't contact you, they can't give you the help you need. So, if you know the info you put on your application has changed, they need to know ASAP. They want you to stay in touch if you filed for disaster assistance, especially if you haven't heard from them yet and think you should have by now. Remember, without the correct info, your assistance can be delayed.
For impaired applicants using videophone, InnoCaption, or CapTel, simply provide FEMA with the number you were assigned. Also, it's important to be aware that FEMA may call from an unidentified number.
If you have concerns or questions, call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585) or visit them online at disasterassistance.gov.
For the hearing impaired, see the FEMA video below for more info, presented in English and ASL.
