I stumbled across an excellent, simple website that is great for both watching the tropics, and for just seeing what's going on with the weather.

It's called Windy, and it shows an animated map of present wind currents, along with three different forecast models to choose from to display day-by-day forecasts.

Here's what using it looks like in motion:

Based on one of its forecast models, here's what Hurricane Irma might end up doing later this week.

It's interesting to just drag around the map and see what's going on in the world, and the forecasting just makes visualizing things a lot easier when you can control how they're animated in real time.

Just press the Play button to see the map start moving along the forecast model, which you can select in the bottom right of the screen. You can also jump to specific days by clicking on them.
