Sgt. James Anderson with the Louisiana State Police, Troop D, reports there will be a seat belt and DWI checkpoint scheduled to take place on Friday, August 21, 2015.  The checkpoint will take place at undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish between the hours of 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. in an effort to get area citizens to use their seat belts and stop people from driving while impaired,

Louisiana State Police Troop D will issue tickets to vehicle occupants who are not properly restrained or who do not properly restrain children in the vehicle, as well as take impaired drivers off the street before they cause injury or death to themselves or someone else.  So before you head out, designate a driver or drive sober and avoid the hassle.
Statistics show wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing a motorist can do, to protect themselves and children in the event of an accident.  Sgt. Anderson reports 58% of the people who died in accidents here in Louisiana, were not wearing a seat belt.  Parents remember, children must be restrained in an age and weight appropriate safety seat every time they ride in a vehicle.
To report impaired drivers, dial *LSP (*577) from your cell phone or to contact a local law enforcement agency.  Support for this checkpoint is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
Buckle up Louisiana.  Every trip.  Every time.
