Severe weather including heavy rain, high winds, hail, and possible tornado activity may be rolling through SWLA mid-week.

The beautiful weekend has given way to some very nasty weather heading our way this Wednesday.  In this article we'll go over the possible effects of the storm and when to expect the worst in SWLA.

This afternoon Meteorologist Donald Jones held a weather briefing concerning the upcoming storm heading for our area. According to Jones, we should expect the worst of the storm to roll through SWLA from noon to 3:00 pm on Wednesday. Jones also added that he currently believes that the threat of tornadoes will be low with this storm, but it could generate wind gusts up to 60-80 mph.

Here's the National Weather Service forecast for the next few days in SWLA:

  • Tonight: Patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 64. South wind around 10 mph.
  • Tuesday: Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 10 to 15 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
  • Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely between 1pm and 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. High near 79. Windy, with a south wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
  • Wednesday Night: A slight chance of thunderstorms before 7pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 50. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.
  • Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 75. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. East wind around 5 mph.

As the saying goes, “hope for the best, be prepared for the worst, and unsurprised by anything in between.” Please make sure you're ready for anything this storm can throw at us tomorrow. There may be the possibility for tornadoes to be associated with this storm front. So have your emergency plans in place.
