It is interesting how the band came about. The band was put together in 1947 and back then they were known as the Oak Ridge Quartet singing and performing Southern gospel music through the 1950s.

They eventually turned into the Oak Ridge Boys and in the 1980's they exploded in country music.  During their career, they have won countless awards.

The Oak Ridge Boys won the ACM Top Vocal group and single of the year for Elvira. They have won the CMA awards Instrumental Group of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Single of the Year "Elvira, and the Instrumental Group of the Year.

The Oak Ridge Boys have also won several Grammy Awards including the Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for Elvira.
