As if being a teacher today wasn't hard enough, Louisiana is about to make it even harder. The state's Senate Finance Committee is looking at a bill that could raise the age of teacher retirement. The bill, proposed by Senator Russell Barrow Peacock (Republican) and Senator Ed Price (Democrat), would raise the age from 62 to 67 before teachers could retire and get their full benefits.

According to reports, Senator Price says the bill would save the state money and free up financial resources to reallocate to increase wages for teachers, school board employees, and more. In addition, the proposed changes would only affect new hires, not existing teachers. The hearing on this matter will take place today. More details on what is decided coming soon.
