UPDATE: The McNeese athletic department and head coach Frank Wilson announced late yesterday they will delay the start of fall camp. The Cowboys were originally scheduled to begin camp this morning.

“On Wednesday, the NCAA released new guidelines for all of its schools in Divisions I, II and III. McNeese is in the process of implementing plans to meet all of these new guidelines,” said Interim Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer.

Football fans, get excited because progress is in motion as the McNeese Cowboys football team starts fall camp today and will go through the weekend.

Matt Bonnette, the sports information director with the McNeese athletic department, said the team will meet today starting at 9:00am. This will be the first time the Pokes will hit the practice field under brand new head football coach, Frank Wilson.

Wilson takes over the helm from Lance Guidry, who vacated the job last season. He is tasked with taking over a program that was slapped with sanctions from the NCAA last season.

Fall camp starts today with what they call two-a-days. The team will meet at 9:00am this morning and then again at 3:45pm. The rest of this weekend's schedule is as follows.

  • Saturday, Aug. 8: 9:00am and 3:45pm
  • Sunday, Aug. 9: 9:00am and 3:45pm

The Cowboys will have six home games this season and, as we reported earlier this week, the athletic department has extended the deadline for season tickets through August 14. Make sure you get your tickets soon so you can support the Cowboys and go see live football action.

The 2020 McNeese football season gets underway on the road against the Ragin' Cajuns of Lafayette at Cajun Field. That contest is scheduled for Saturday September 5th. Kickoff for the game has not been set yet, but we are sure the time will be announced soon.

The Cowboys' first home game will be on Saturday, September 12 against Northern Colorado. Just keep your fingers crossed that there will still be a 2020 football season.
