McNeese Baseball Ends Great Year With a Trip to the Southland Conference Tournament
The Cowboys Baseball team had a great regular season with the most wins (26) for the team since 2010 and the most conference wins (18) since 2006. This has propelled the team into the SLC Tournament where anything can happen.
While I was at a recent game I ask a long time fan what the difference was between this years team and last years. He told me it was a "whatever it takes to get the job done attitude" brought in by first year head coach Justin Hill. There is more of a team attitude this year with everyone willing to do whatever they are ask. It has paid off.
There were also some great individual accomplishments. According to McNeese junior infielder Andrew Guillotte etched his name into the record books back on March 2 as he stole his 44th career base to place his name on the all-time stolen bases leader board, junior relief pitcher Tyler Erickson tied the record for most pitching appearances in a single season with 31, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission added sophomore Cameron Toole to its Johnny Bench Award Watch List for the best collegiate catcher.
The Pokes head to Central Arkansas next week for the SLC Tournament set to take place May 21-24. The Cowboys are making their 13th appearance in the tournament and the second consecutive appearance. This makes their third conference tournament in the last five seasons. You can hear all of the games on Cajun Radio 1470.
