Earlier today, we reported that Tyrann Mathieu was released from the LSU football program.  Now unconfirmed reports are flying out saying that 'The Honey Badger" is head to Lake Charles and McNeese State University.

Now a tweet sent to Tyrann from former LSU teammate Josh Jasper has the rumors flying!

UPDATE:

The Beaumont Enterprise posted a picture of what looks to be Tyrann Mathieu at the McNeese Football facility last night around 10:40 p.m. You be the judge.

By Friday night, Mathieu was rumored to be on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. That rumor seems to be corroborated by a photo that appears to be of Mathieu posted to Twitter by a user with the screen name @ChrisDelrie15. Lake Charles American Press reporter Alex Hickey wrote about the photo "This is MSU's football building or a good clone."

The photo is above.

Here is a closer look at the photo:

Remember, Tyrann Mathieu was a finalist last year for the Heisman Trophy last year.  If McNeese could get Mathieu, it would be huge!

CBSSports.com and SI.com are both reporting:

Tyrann Mathieu’s former LSU teammate, Josh Jasper, appeared to break the news on the Honey Badger’s new team on Twitter early Friday evening.

@TM7_Era already transferred to McNeese! Staying in the boot

Jasper is a kicker who graduated in 2011 and spent a week last summer in camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com tweeted that a source told him that Mathieu is looking at McNeese State, implying that the transfer is not yet a done deal.

McNeese State, based in Lake Charles, La., makes a lot of sense for Mathieu, a New Orleans native, given the school’s proximity to home, the Cowboys’ FCS membership (which would make Mathieu eligible to play this season), and the program’s relative strength (the Cowboys have won six conference titles and made the I-AA playoffs seven times since 2000).
