The richest day of racing is today, as Delta Downs Racetrack gets ready for Louisiana Premier Day. This is the day when Delta Downs features thoroughbred horses that are born, raised, and raced only in Louisiana.

Usually, Louisiana Premier racing is a night event, but Hurricanes Laura and Delta damaged the racetrack's lighting system, forcing them to have to race during the day this season.

Delta Downs had to pivot after the storms to race their live thoroughbred racing Mondays through Thursdays, starting at 12:55pm since the season started. In a normal season, the racing would take place Wednesdays through Saturdays, starting in the 5:00pm hour.

The total purse for all the races today is a mind blowing $805,000, with the featured race being the $125,000 Louisiana Premier Day Championship for older horses competing at 1-1/16 miles. The race is set for the ninth one of the day.

There are a total of ten Louisiana Premier Day stakes races on today's schedule. Five of the races are worth a cool $100,000 each. There is no cost to go out to watch the horses run, and kids are allowed to go as well.

Delta Downs is located in Vinton. To get there, just take exit seven off of I-10, head north, and follow the signs. Y'all enjoy.
