Country music fans remember June 5, 1993.  That is the day country music lost a legend when Conway Twitty passed away from an abdominal aortic aneurysm.  He was just 59 years old.  It was a dark day for country music losing one it's greatest performers ever!

Conway Twitty who's real name was Harold Lloyd Jenkins was born September 1st, 1933in Friars Point, Mississippi. Have you ever wondered how Conway Twitty got his stage name?

Well the story that is told is that before he was Conway, Harold Jenkins was looking at a road map when he saw Conway, Arkansas, and Twitty, Texas, thus choosing the stage name Conway Twitty.

Conway Twitty racked up 55 number one hits in his career.  Twitty was the only singer to have 55 No. 1 hits in his career until George Strait surpassed the long-held record. Conway's 55th and final No. 1 was "Crazy in Love" in 1990.

My favorite Conway songs include "Don't Take It Away, Goodbye Time, and That's My Job".  What are yours?

Happy Birthday to a true country music icon!

Here is on of Conway's last performances in 1993 before he died.
