This has been one heck of a week. Tropical downpours occurring on Monday caused the third worst flood in Lake Charles history and were followed by more rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting officials to close several offices, waterways, and schools in the area.

The City of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Police Jury Offices closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the weather, which also interrupted a few of the services offered through the departments. As of today, they have reopened and services will start running again for residents of the city and parish.

Trash and garbage pickup was suspended those days, so they will be looking to get back on track starting today. Katie Harrington with the city gave us the schedule for trash pickup in the city for the rest of this week.

  • Thursday, May 20 – Completion of Monday's route and all of Tuesday’s route
  • Friday, May 21 –Thursday and Friday routes
  • Saturday, May 22 – Any missed collections from Thursday and Friday routes
  • Monday, May 24 – Return to normal collection schedule

All Calcasieu Parish schools will remain closed through Friday and plan to reopen Monday, May 24.

Remember, we still have an 80-90% chance of rain today and tomorrow with a forecast of 1-3 inches of rain still possibly coming, so things could change with these offices, depending on the weather.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on traffic and weather.
