Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Gets More Funding For Traffic Stops

A recent press release states The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has received$153,155 in grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to conduct additional traffic safety enforcement activities. This funding is for DUI safety checkpoints and other driver safety enforcement.

The grant will help the Sheriff Deputies to remove impaired drivers and enforce seatbelt regulations. The grant will fund these activities through September of 2014.

The funding is also used for special programs throughout the year. Between May 19 and June 1, 2014, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the ‘Click It or Ticket’ seatbelt enforcement mobilization.  The Sheriff’s Office will also participate in the “Buckle Up In Your Truck” traffic safety campaign.

From August 15 through September 1, 2014, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be out in full force as part of the annual nationwide ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ crackdown on drunk driving.

“Research has shown that high-visibility enforcement like ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign reduces drunk driving fatalities by as much as 20 percent.
