With the freezing temperatures upon once again, it's important to remember not all us have a warm, dry place the get out of the cold.  If you or someone you know is in need of shelter during this winter storm there are a few shelters in our area that can help them.

As we learn of more shelter locations in the area, we will update this page.  Be sure to check back often.  In the meantime, the following locations are accepting those in need.

The Lake Charles Salvation Army, located at 3020 Legion Street, houses men and according to Major David Cradock will be accepting homeless citizens seeking shelter from the cold.  Major Cradock said check-in time is at 5:pm and check-out time is at 8pm each day.  The Lake Charles Salvation Army is a Soup Kitchen as well, serving Breakfast at 7 am and Dinner at 4:30 pm, 365 days a year. In partnership with the local American Red Cross, the City will open the Purple Heart Memorial Community Recreation Center, located at 4305 Avenue H, as a temporary Warming Station beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. and remaining open for this purpose, as needed.  Anyone staying at the Warming Station must provide their own essentials, including: clothing, toiletries, food and personal belongings.  No pets will be allowed in the Warming Station.  For more info call the Lake Charles American Red Cross at 337-478-5122 or the Purple Heart Memorial Community Recreation Center at (337) 491-1277.
