You would think that the days of criminals thinking they could out-run the boys in blue were over. I mean, you can't drive faster than the radio, right? Maybe Thomas Wilcox was pining for the good old days when he dropped the hammer in the vehicle he was driving - but it didn't exactly work out the way he imagined.
Unless his goal was to get into way more trouble. If that's what he was going for, I can safely say he was wildly successful.
Earlier this week, the 60 year-old Napoleonville, Louisiana resident was spotted cruising down LA. 1 by an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The officer recognized Wilcox and knew there was a warrant out for his arrest. When the red and blues started flashing, the Thomas took it as a sign that the race had begun. According to MyArkLaMiss, Wilcox put the pedal to the metal in an effort to escape justice.
Allegedly, Mr. Wilcox hit speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour during the pursuit. He would come to learn that the police cars in Assumption Parish can also hit triple digit speeds - and the officers behind the wheel can communicate with each other even faster!
What's even stranger is the fact that this guy drove like a bat-out-of-hell to his own home! According to the report, he leapt from his vehicle and ran straight inside. Officers were able to get a warrant to enter his house rather quickly, which is exactly what they did.
Thomas Wilcox was arrested on the spot, and is being charged with aggravated flight, resisting an officer, speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, improper lane usage, failure to signal a turn, and last but not least the thing he was originally wanted for - failure to appear for resisting an officer in Assumption Parish.
He has since been released on a $57,000 bond.
