Times are tough here in the Southwest Louisiana area with people not working, not getting a paycheck, and wondering where their next meal is going to come from each day.

I mean, folks are really struggling as they have been laid off from their jobs and their bills are coming due with no way to pay them as they worry about how to put food on the table for their family.

The United Way of Southwest Louisiana along with the Second Harvest Food Bank will be handing out food to families today in Lake Charles.

Some of the foods they handed out in the past were things like chicken, milk, produce, and bottled water. Last time they did this, they handed out approximately 100,000 pounds of food. So I would expect the same today.

The event starts at 11:00am this morning and runs until 1:00pm and is located at the Prien Lake Mall in Lake Charles.

People can line up this morning and the distribution will start by the Home Goods store in the parking lot.

There is a limit of one family per vehicle.
