SLC Football Media days Tuesday & Wednesday at L’auberge du Lac
You can tell that Football is coming soon because college media days is upon us. LSU had the SEC Media day last week and now its the Southland Conference and McNeese Cowboys turn.
The 2011 Southland Conference football media event begins Tuesday at the L'Auberge du Lac resort in Lake Charles with McNeese State serving as the host school.
Besides the Cowboys, other conference schools in attendance will be Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State.
A highlight of the two day program will be the release of the coaches' pre-season all-conference team and the pre-season poll from the league coaches and the sports information directors on Wednesday.
Representing McNeese at the meeting will be head coach Matt Viator and all-SLC players Desmund Lighten and Miguel Gauthreaux.
Other head coaches in attendance will be Clint Conque of Central Arkansas, Bradley Dale Peveto of Northwestern State, Willie Fritz of Sam Houston State, Mike Lucas of Southeastern Louisiana, J. C. Harper of Stephen F. Austin, Charlie Stubbs of Nicholls State and Ray Woodard of Lamar.
Joining McNeese's Lighten and Gauthreaux on the player panel will be Frank Newsome and Nathan Dick of Central Arkansas, Marcus Jackson and Jocody Coleman of Lamar, LaQuintin Caston and Bobby Felder of Nicholls, Yaser Elqutub and Justin Aldredge of Northwestern State, Travis Watson and Eddie Decambre of Sam Houston State, Simmie Yarborough and Devin Boutwell of Sam Houston and George Bias and Devin Ducote of SFA.
Tuesday's schedule of events have the sports information directors in an all day meeting and then a meeting with league coaches, athletic directors, SIDs and conference staff at 7 p.m. that night.
On Wednesday, events will kickoff with media registration at 7:30 a.m. with interviews of coaches and attending players to begin at 9 a.m. More interviews will follow at 1 p.m. after lunch. The release of the pre-season all-conference teams and polls will take place at a morning breakfast.
The Southland Conference announced on Monday its television network for the fall and local KVHP-TV is on the list with telecasts to be carried over its CW channel on the cable.
McNeese's Cowboys will appear on SLC television network twice this season, both times on the road. The Cowboys tackle Central Arkansas in Conway on Oct. 22 on television (3 p.m. kickoff) and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, TX on Oct. 29 (3 p.m.).
McNeese could also appear in November on television as the conference has wild cart games on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19, the games not to be announced until a week prior to the contest.
