Saints Quarterback Drew Brees Celebrates His 35th Birthday Today
Beloved New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is celebrating his 35th birthday today. Can you believe that Drew has been in the NFL for 13 seasons now and has been with the Saints since 2006.
Drew is from Austin Texas and played his college football at Purdue. He was drafted back in 2001 in the NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers in the second round. He was the 32nd overall pick that year.
After the 2005 season, Drew Brees was a free agent and the Chargers refused to restructure Brees contract and give him an increase. So what did Drew do, he shopped himself around to other teams. The Miami Dolphins and the New Orleans Saints were the two teams he looked at but after Miami passed on Brees because they were worried about his shoulder that he recently had surgery on, he ultimately signed with the Saints. We didn't know it, but history was made that day.
It took only three seasons for Drew Brees to lead the New Orleans Saints to their first ever Superbowl Title on 2009.
On July 13th, 2012 Brees and the New Orleans Saints signed a new contract which made heads spin. Brees was awarded a 5 year deal worth 100 million dollars.
Drew has thrown for over 51,081 yards in his career and has thrown for over 5000 yards the last two seasons.
Drew Brees will go down in my opinion as the greatest Saints player ever! Happy Birthday Drew!
