Relay on the Road Kicks off Tonight
Help raise money for cancer survivors in SWLA at the annual Relay For Life Event taking place tonight.
The cancer awareness fundraiser is going to be slightly different this year due to the pandemic. For obvious reasons, extra precautions will be in place to make sure everyone can participate and feel safe while doing so. Wear your mask if you feel the need to. In spite of last night's national mask mandate being lifted for vaccinated individuals, some residents aren't ready to stop wearing them. That's okay.
This year's event is presented by Northrop Grumman and various other community sponsors and is being dubbed Relay on the Road due to newly added drive-thru pit stops. Pretty cool, right? There will be five different locations in all, and each one will be open from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, then hang out for the drive-in luminaria that jumps off at 9:00pm.
Katie Weinnig, Associate Director with the American Cancer Society, told the news she believes the relay is a chance for everyone to come together, share their experiences, and celebrate as a community. So, come out and help us make a difference. There will be plenty to do, such as photo booths, giveaways, plate dinner fundraisers, and more.
Speaking of which, there will be a CSE Federal Credit Union drive-thru pit stop with live entertainment and to-go root beer floats and popcorn. Don't miss it.
