Photos: Yesterday’s Wreck on 171 South in Moss Bluff
A scary and interesting situation yesterday afternoon on 171 South near Moss Bluff. A huge wreck caused traffic to back up for miles as the wreck blocked both lanes of traffic at the bridge. At one point, traffic was backed up to E. Telephone Road while crews worked to clean up the wreck.
According to CPSO, the wreck was caused by a head-on collision and caused both lanes to be closed for an extended period of time. Now, read that again. a head-on collision. That's right, someone was going north on the southbound side of 171. I can't even fathom how that seems possible, but it did. Some commenters in various Facebook groups, including Kitty News at Your Service, claim that the driver of the silver car was not from the area and was the one going the wrong way. The driver of the SUV only had minor injuries according to other comments. The silver car's driver was indeed airlifted and has been rumored to be in critical condition.
I can't imagine how one could even go the wrong way in that area unless swapping over near the "Walmart on the Bayou". Whatever actually happened to cause this to all take place, we just hope everyone is truly ok and makes a speedy recovery.
