Closed since Hurricane Laura, the Sulphur Quality Suites located on Cities Service Highway were engulfed in flames over the weekend. Sulphur FD got called to the scene around 3 am Sunday morning and the fire had totally taken over the entire complex. The fire took 2 hours to fully extinguish as the Sulphur FD was assisted by Ward 6 Fire Department District 1, Carlyss Fire, and Westlake Fire Departments.

It was confirmed that repairs had been permitted and had slowly begun days prior to the fire. Neighbors in the area claimed on various Facebook posts that there was a dumpster fire that recently happened and was put out. The entire structure of the hotel collapsed in on itself and as a result, firefighters were still working to make sure the entire fire was out into Sunday afternoon.

KPLC reported yesterday morning that an arrest was made in connection with the fire. It was reported that a 27-year-old from Washington, Nathan Hal Thomasini, was arrested for simple arson, setting the structure on fire. He is also being charged with trespassing, simple burglary, and injury by arson. The injury by arson comes from one of the firefighters being injured as the fire was being extinguished.

Simple arson in the state of Louisiana, if convicted, will get you no less than 6 months in jail, but up to 20 years at max with no parole for the first two years. The conviction also comes with a max of a $25,000 fine.
