The McNeese Cowboys won their first game on the road against a FBS or 1-A school, Middle Tennessee, last Thursday 27-21.  That win got the McNeese Cowboys into the Top 25 polls this week.

The Cowboys (1-0) debuted in a tie at No. 21 with Stephen F. Austin in the coaches poll and locked down the No. 22 spot in the Sports Network poll.  McNeese garnered one first place vote in the coaches poll and totaled 102 points.  It was the only new team in this week’s poll that is topped off by North Dakota State.

Southland Conference member Sam Houston State is in at No. 2 after an open date to start the season.  Central Arkansas, a 49-28 victim to Ole Miss, dropped one spot to No. 20 followed by McNeese and SFA.

The Cowboys will open their home slate on Saturday at 7 against McMurry in Cowboy Stadium.
