LSU Shortstop Alex Bregman Named The National Freshman Player of the Year
The LSU baseball team is having a great season so far and now awards are coming their way as well. LSU shortstop Alex Bregman has been named the National Freshman Player of the Year by the Collegiate Baseball magazine.
Bregman, who is from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was also honored as the 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year by the Southeastern Conference league coaches, and he was also named to the first-team all-SEC at the shortstop position.
Bregman also led the Tigers to a Baton Regional win last weekend as he batted .545 (6-for-11) in the regional with one double, one homer, three RBI and five runs.
The best-of-three NCAA Super Regional series between No. 4-seeded LSU and Oklahoma will start this Friday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN, it was announced early Tuesday morning.
Game 2 of the series will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
Game 3, if necessary, is set for Sunday at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
