Earlier this week, we reported that the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office was going to conduct a DWI checkpoint. Now the Louisiana State Police are going to also have a Sobriety & Seat Belt Checkpoint this weekend too.

Is unknown if the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police checkpoints will be at the same location or at different locations.

According to Trooper Sengal with the Louisiana State Police,

In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop D plans to conduct a sobriety and seat belt checkpoint on Friday, February 18, 2022 from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.

Our mission will be to detect and arrest impaired drivers before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others. Additionally, we will be checking vehicles for unrestrained motorists and occupants in an effort to reduce the number of traffic-related fatalities caused by not wearing a seat belt.

Motorists are encouraged to designate a sober driver and buckle up. You are also suggested to make a plan of action early if you are going to be drinking and need to get home.

LFYT, UBER, Taxi, or finding a designated driver are the best options for you to get home and keep your Southwest Louisiana roadways safe.

If you see an impaired driver on the roadways anytime, you can report them grabbing your phone and dialing *LSP (*577) to report it to the nearest Louisiana State Police troop. Of course, you can always call 911 also to contact your closest local law enforcement agency.

Stay safe and buckle up Louisiana.
