The Lake Charles Police department has recovered a body from a submerged vehicle located in a ditch in the eastern part of the city.

The vehicle was found on East Prien Lake Road in a low-lying area overtaken by water. The LCPD and firefighters recovered the body in the vehicle during their investigation.

With all the heavy rain we've had in the Southwest Louisiana area this week and the flooding that has occurred, especially in the Lake Charles area Monday, officials are confirming this is the first death caused by the weather event.

The Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office confirmed the body recovered is the first flood-related death in the area.
