Lafayette Ice Cream Parlor Is The Last Of Its Kind
The Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe is the last of its kind in the U.S.A. and it's right down I-10 in Lafayette. It's worth the short drive to witness history and to help keep the shoppe alive by being a patron.
- Address: 1103 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501
- Hours: Monday-Friday: 7:30am to 10pm ; Saturday-Sunday: 10am to 10pm
Borden's Ice Cream has been a staple treat for Lafayette residents since 1940. Walking into the doors it's like a time warp taking you on a fantastic voyage into the past. It almost looks like a movie set.
If you're looking for old-school milkshake joint classics like cones, banana splits, hot dogs, and of course handmade milkshakes then this is your place.
The motif of Borden's will at the most make you feel like a kid again or at least like you hopped into a DeLorean, set a date for 1955, and hit 88mph!
I'm glad I found this because now I'm planning a family weekend in Lafayette in my head.
Here's our agenda:
- Friday: Go-Cart Ranch
- Saturday: Lafayette Zoo
- Sunday: Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe for lunch and frozen treats
My wife has a 1950's poodle skirt costume from Halloween a few years ago. I may have to try and convince her to wear it when we go so I can dress up like John Travolta from Grease. That would be dope!
