Four McNeese Football Players Make Southland All-Academic Team
The Pokes have been working hard to improve their team GPA ever since the NCAA cracked down on the program in 2019.
The McNeese football program was put on academic probation for the 2020 season due to the team grading below the NCAA's GPA requirement. There was a post-season ban imposed on the Pokes and they were now on the NCAA's radar for possible future program penalities.
The hard work is starting to pay off in the classroom for the McNeese football program. Four players made the Southland Conference All-Academic Team.
In fact, not only is DE Isiah Chambers a two-time Southland Defensive Player of the Year, but he also repeats as the Southland All-Academic Athlete of the Year. He had a 4.0 GPA in Criminal Justice. Chambers was recently signed by the Houston Gamblers in the USFL.
Quarterback Cody Orgeron was also hitting the books hard. He had a 4.0 GPA in Health Promotion. Orgeron is currently an offensive intern coach with the Miami Hurricanes football team.

- OL Calvin Barkat - 3.50 GPA - Pre-Chiropractic Med.
- LB Kordell Williams - 3.00 GPA - Criminal Justice
