With the Mardi gras season upon us and all the balls and parties going on in the area, people are hitting the streets and should not be driving.  The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a joint DWI And Seatbelt Checkpoint this Thursday night somewhere in the parish.

The checkpoint will be this Thursday night January 28th and will be located at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.  People are encouraged to buckle up and get a designated driver!

Kim Myers with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office says:

In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a combination DWI checkpoint and a seatbelt checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the parish on Thursday, January 28.

This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics, which has been proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted. The checkpoint will also target people who are not wearing their seatbelt.

This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
