The day none of us in Southwest Louisiana were looking forward to is here. June 1 marks the start of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and we don't need to remind y'all about last year.  We are still rebuilding from the 2020 season.

But unfortunately, the 2021 hurricane season is here. So far, this season has already produced one named storm, Ana. That is kind of scary since it formed before the season even started.

NOAA is predicting we could have anywhere between 13 to 20 named storms this season. Last year was an overactive season with a record 30 named storms. Let's hope that is not the case this season.

Here are the remaining names for the 2021 hurricane season:

Bill, Claudette, Danny, Elsa, Fred, Grace, Henri, Ida, Julian, Kate, Larry, Mindy, Nicholas, Odette, Peter, Rose, Sam, Teresa, Victor, and Wanda.

If we run of of names this year, we won't be moving into the Greek alphabet like last year. Instead, there's a secondary list of names this time around.

Adria, Braylen, Caridad, Deshawn, Emery, Foster, Gemma, Heath, Isla, Jacobus, Kenzie, Lucio, Makayla, Nolan, Orlanda, Pax, Ronin, Sophie, Tayshaun, Viviana, Will

Now what should you do to be prepared? I think we are all pros by now but then again, we have all been so occupied cleaning up and rebuilding from last year, here is your reminder. If you plan on staying and riding out a storm, make sure you have enough clean water, cash on hand, batteries, a weather radio, gas in your gas can and tanks in your vehicles and generators, and all your medicines filled by your pharmacy.

If you plan to evacuate for any storm, secure your property and ensure all things outside are stored properly so they don't become flying debris. Make sure to have cash on hand and a plan of action on where you will evacuate to, checking the roadways for evacuation routes.

None of us want to talk about this but folks, the 2021 Hurricane Season is here whether we like it or not, so stay safe and prepared.
