“Swamp People” Star Trapper Joe Hearing Set, Girlfriend Name Released
We reported last week about "Swamp People" star Trapper Joe Lafonte being arrested for domestic violence in California. After we checked our source, we found out that he was actually arrested in Florida while visiting Disney World.
LaFont was picked up by police shortly after the drunken disturbance outside the Buena Vista Hotel & Spa in Florida after a witness claimed he struck Trene Marie Planche.
Joe denies that the incident happened and Trene refused medical attention and would not press charges.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office saw him shaking and punching his live-in girlfriend in the chest at the hotel, according to the arrest affidavit.
Trene Marie Planche told deputies LaFont attempted to burn her with a cigarette as she tried to reach for a cell phone that he had on his hip. "Swamp People" is the popular History Channel TV series that chronicles the lives of alligator hunters in Louisiana.
Nevertheless, Joe was charged with battery domestic violence and assault domestic violence.
He was released on $1,500 bail and has a hearing set for July 19.
