Right now we have a threat of tropical weather coming to the area in the next 24 to 36 hours and with heavy down pours and wind possible, it is always good to be prepared just in case you lose your utilities for any long period of time.

All of us live here in hurricane alley and at anytime we can have something pop up just like the system in the gulf right now. We should always have a plan in place and have supplies handy just in case it gets a little dicey.

Here are some of the basics that we think are important to have on hand in your home or business:

Water -- Always good to have a good supply of clean drinking water on hand.

Food-- Can goods and non-perishable foods for at least 5 days and make sure you have a manual can opener.

Personal toiletries -- Toothpaste, tooth brush, deodorant, toilet paper and feminine products.

Medicines-- If you take medication, you need to make sure you have at least a week supply of medicines that are critical for your health.

Gasoline -- Make sure that you have a few cans of gas on tap for you generator and make sure your vehicles are filled up in case you have to evacuate.

Tools -- General tools like a screwdriver, pliers, hammer.  That way if you need to put boards over your windows you have a hammer or if you may need to turn off your utilities you have the correct tools.

Cell Phone charger---They have these solar chargers that need no electricity to charge your phones, just the sun.

Batteries -- Always have Batteries and a flash light handy

Cash-  If possible have some cash available

Important Documents --  Like your Birth Certificates, Insurance Papers, Drivers License, and life insurance policies.

So please be prepared and have a plan of action, just in case you have to evacuate. If you decide to stay put in your home and ride out any storm, make sure you are prepared.
