Guitarist Marshall Ledee From “Cookie & the Cupcakes” Has Died at 86
"Mathilda, Got you on my Mind and Walking Down The Isle" are just two of the many songs legendary Swamp pop band Cookie and the Cupcakes are known for by folks here in the area. One of the original members of Cookie and the Cupcakes Marshall LeDee has passed away at the age of 86.
The band Cookie & the Cupcakes were based out of Lake Charles and started playing in 1953 as the house band at the Moulin Rouge Club in Lake Charles, LA.
In 1955, the Boogie Ramblers released "Cindy Lou" and "Such As Love" on Goldband Records. They became a popular regional live act, and toured with big names like Jerry Lee Lewis and Fats Domino.
In 1957, they recorded their signature song 'Mathilda' for Judd Records. The song went national and went to #47 on the Billboard pop chart in early 1959. Also, As I always say, people say that Mathilda is regarded as the unofficial national anthem of the swamp pop genre.
