This week’s “Don’s Automotive Group Athlete of the Week” is Washington Marion Charging Indians senior basketball player, Michael Thomas of Lake Charles. He holds a 3.6 GPA, and was nominated by his mother Toni Thomas Simien, friends, and family.

During the 2016-2017 Louisiana High School Basketball season, the Washington Marion boys basketball team brought home a championship when they defeated A.J. Ellender 65-58, under Coach Albert Hartwell. It gave the school their first championship in 30 years.

What's awesome about Mike's contributions to his team's Class 4A 2017 State Championship title is that he did it coming off the bench as the sixth man. He ended the night with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Way to go, Mike!

Below are a few of Mike's achievements, as well as a highlight video:

  • District 3-4A Boys Second Team 2016-2017
  • 2015-2016’s Most Improved Student of the Year
  • 2017 Memphis Showdown Tournament MVP
