It's time for Mardi Gras in the great state of Louisiana and although we are not the originators of the Mardi Gras festivities, We do it big over here. Now there are some who don't necessarily like the fun, beads, adult beverages and other activities that go along with the holiday and I have a few tips on how to make it through with no problems. This is for those who live here or plan on visiting during this exciting time.

1. Find Alternate Routes that Don't involve Ryan Street

Lake Charles is actually bigger then you think. This means that most of us know that Ryan Street is the basis for the Mardi Gras festivities and if you are not a fan, this is one street you need to avoid at all cost. Depending on where you live in the area, I am sure you can always take the I-10 bridge and go directly to you destination. Ryan Street is the heart of Lake Charles and most business run into this road. It leads the students to Mcneese, leads employees to work and so much more, but it can be avoided if need be. This best remedy for this day maybe to stay at home..LOL!

2. Don't Come to Louisiana

This is not to be taken personally at all . We love all of our out of towners, family members and more who come to visit. It's just that during this time we party in Lake Charles. Mardi Gras is the moment where people are excused from work, the kids are out of school and you're not penalized as much for the intake of exotic beverages. If this is not what you are in to, you may want to save you trip for Mother's Day, Fathers Day or even Christmas. Fat Tuesday is the day where fun is legal in Lake Charles and we take full advantage of it.

3. Do That Netflix Marathon

Here's another tip on how to avoid Mardi Gras in Lake Charles, how about a full day of movies with that Netflix account you have either been putting off or never used. This could be your time to catch up on the last season of "Dexter", "Breaking Bad" or watching those movies that you never made it to the theatre to catch. After a full season of "The Wire", you will have made a full day of your personal entertainment and have bypassed all of Fat Tuesday.

4. Shut Off All Social Media

I think this one is self explanatory, do you really want to know how much fun everyone else is having hanging out on Ryan and partying like rock stars. I thought so, this basically means that you may want to log off Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You may not even want to check your email for a day for that matter. Everyone is going to be taking photos of themselves with their families in front of the pits and more. Yeah you may want to be a hermit for the day, because Fat Tuesday and Social Media is a given to go together. Good Luck on that!

5. Think About Changing Your Attitude

So I have tried to help you out with my first 4 tips and if those seem impossible to do, then you may want to take my advice and change your mind out Mardi Gras. This is one of those holidays that is going to be here after you and I leave this city or this world. It's not a bad holiday and can really be fun. Who doesn't want to get some free beads to wear around their necks for the day and to keep as souvenier. This is also one of those days where you can literally eat food all over the place, everyone is so friendly on this day and wants to share with you. Also for the most part, everyone gets a day off of work. I would say to settle for option 5 and just ball out and have all of the fun that you want. Nobody is going to judge you at all. Happy Mardi Gras everyone from The Peoples Station 107 Jamz!
