Update: April 18, 2016— Due to impending weather conditions, the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled on Wednesday, April 20 at Wastewater Treatment Plant BC at 1132 W. 18th Street, has been cancelled by the City of Lake Charles.


Originally published on April 14, 2016, 7:56 p.m. — In an effort to meet the needs of the growing population in Lake Charles, construction has already begun on a new Wastewater Treatment Plant, which includes an administrative building and laboratory. The City of Lake Charles will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, April 20 at 2 p.m.for the approximately 24 month construction project, located at 1132 W. 18th Street.

The treatment plant is estimated to cost about $42 million, while the administrative building and laboratory, destroyed during Hurricane Rita, will cost about $1.2 million.

The current wastewater plant was constructed in phases between 1954 and 1966, and its equipment is outdated, said a City of Lake Charle press release.
