The Louisiana-based reality show, Swamp People, is back for their twelfth season. Most hardcore fans know the series is still running, while a lot of you maybe didn't know it was still on the air.

If you are not familiar with the premise of the series, it showcases alligator hunters from Louisiana who hit the bayou looking to cash in on large gators to sell. They also assist their neighbors with pesky gators that wreak havoc in the waterways around their homes.

When the show first premiered in 2010, it was an instant hit. Swamp People mania was running wild, especially here in Louisiana. You couldn't go to a festival in the state without one or more of the stars of the show appearing in person for pictures and autographs.

The series started to lose its luster with the arrests of a few of their stars, which cast a bad shadow on the family-friendly show.

But even with all the turmoil, the show is still on the air and is back for it's twelfth season with some of their biggest stars appearing this season. Troy Landry and alligator queen Liz headline the all-star cast as they get back to hunting those elusive gators.

Swamp People airs on the History channel and premieres this Thursday, February 4 at 8:00pm Central time. Most folks don't realize that the show is filmed in September because the Louisiana alligator hunting season only runs for 30 days from September 1 through the September 30.
