Sulphur Woman Arrested for Negligent Homicide of 8-Month-Old Baby
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office arrested and charged a 26-year-old Sulphur woman after she admitted to using methamphetamine and marijuana while caring for her 8-month-old baby.
According to a media release from Kim Myers, on January 23, at about 7:40 am deputies responded to a home on Eunice Street in Sulphur in regards to an 8-month-old baby boy who wasn't breathing. The baby was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives located marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia during a search of the home. The mother, Lacey A. Blount, 26, of 1506 Eunice Street admitted to using the drugs found by detectives while caring for her baby. She also told detectives she tried hiding the narcotics while deputies were attempting to resuscitate the baby.
Blount was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with negligent homicide; possession of CDS I, possession of CDS II, obstruction of justice, and 4 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond is set at $12,000.
The cause of death is pending the coroner’s investigation, said Myers.
