Laurie Koelzer, Interim Executive Director says the City of Sulphur is excited to have the event in town once again. She added

“Sulphur Parks and Recreation is honored to host this exciting event and wants to welcome the LHSAA, student-athletes, fans, and visitors to our community. McMurry Park Baseball complex will be the place you want to be this week to experience the buzz in the air while watching talented athletes compete for their championship title. Come out and join us at McMurry Park to witness these athletes make memories for many years to come.”

The tournaments bring more than excitement to the city, it also makes a huge impact on Sulphur's economy. The city played host to last month, LHSAA Softball State Championships, which brought 10,000 visitors to the city and made an impact of $1 million! The 2022 projected economic impact from the tournament is an estimated $2 million.

Senior Vice President of Sales at Visit Lake Charles, Eric Zartler said of this week's tournament, “Hosting these tournaments stretch beyond the game and athletic talents,” Zartler continued. “We love the thrill of the game, but the families and affiliates of these student-athletes increase the value of Southwest Louisiana as a whole. From authentic food to outdoor fun, this community is proud to share our downhome culture and hospitality with everyone involved in this LHSAA championship.”

Executive Director of the LHSAA Eddie Bonine, said the feeling is mutual. He added,

"On behalf of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, our entire staff, and an Executive Committee, we are excited to visit the great city of Sulphur once again for the 2022 Ochsner LHSAA Baseball State Tournament.

The LHSAA prides itself on the promotion of education-based athletics through academic excellence, sportsmanship, and overall character formation for all student-athletes and Sulphur provides a fantastic venue for student-athletes to excel.”
