The Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D will conduct a seat belt compliance and DWI checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish on Thursday, December 17, in an effort to increase seat belt usage and combat impaired driving.  Troop D will set up a checkpoint on Thursday, between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish.

The nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign begins Wednesday, December 16th, and lasts until January 1, 2016. Troopers will increase DWI enforcement activities during this time, said LSP Sgt. James Anderson.

During the 2013 holiday enforcement period (December 18-31) there were 1,180 people killed in crashes on our nation's roads. Almost a third (30%) of those fatalities occurred in drunk-driving crashes. On Christmas Day, 23 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes.

According to LSP, their mission is to "ticket vehicle occupants who are not properly restrained or who choose not to properly restrain children in the vehicle as well as to remove impaired drivers from the road before they cause injury or death to themselves or others."

If you suspect someone of impaired driving, you are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular device, or simply contact your local law enforcement agency.

Drive sober or get pulled over!
