Sam Houston Wins the First Lake Area School Spirit Contest
With 160,601 votes cast, it’s fair to say that the first Lake Area School Spirit Contest was a success. While it was awesome to see so many votes go to support our students, our hats are off to the winners — Sam Houston High in Moss Bluff, who collared 47 percent of the vote, beating out seven other schools.
What blew our minds about the whole contest wasn’t the number of votes — though that was impressive. What totally blew us away was that only HALF the votes — around 84,000 or so — came from Louisiana. The rest came from 32 other states and 10 nations around the world. Turns out that Lake Charles has some friends all over the place!
We made the big announcement at Wingstop on Ryan Street earlier today after two weeks of voting. Want to see how your school did?
We also have a full breakdown of the votes in a downloadable PDF form here.
So what does this mean? Well, it means we’ll be broadcasting live from one special Sam Houston home game this season and that Wingstop and Jammie’s Cakes from Sulphur will be feeding the crowd. We’ll also give away door prizes like a Google Nexus 7 tablet computer and more.
We hope to have more details on the party next week. Check back and get prepared because we’re going to do this again next year — and we’ll be inviting more schools. The competition is going to get tough, so be ready!
