The University of Colorado has released a photo of the “Dark Knight Rises” shooter.  James Holmes, 24, was arrested after killing 12 and wounding several dozen others during a midnight showing of the movie.More information is emerging on Holmes.  He was not on anyone’s radar, nor did he have a prior criminal record.  The Huffington Post is reporting that the FBI has gotten involved in the case.

The FBI has revealed Holmes is a white male who is 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 24 years old, with a birth date of Dec. 13, 1987. Authorities have found no significant criminal record and no terrorist affiliations. Investigators suspect he acted alone.

A motive in the shooting is not yet known…

…Holmes reportedly had Tennessee license plates on the vehicle he was driving at the time of the shooting, but a connection to that state remains unclear. He was arrested next to the vehicle, without incident, after the shooting spree ended. Police say he was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and gas mask at the time of the shooting and was armed with two long guns and a handgun.

Also, ABC News reports that a woman identifying herself as Holmes’ mother.  The San Diego woman seems to have no question in her mind that her son is the shooter.

The woman, contacted at her home in San Diego, spoke briefly with ABC News and immediately expressed concern her son may be involved in the shooting death of at least 12 people overnight.

“You have the right person,” she said, apparently speaking on gut instinct. “I need to call the police… I need to fly out to Colorado.”

USA Today quoted an Associated Press report that Holmes dropped out of the University of Colorado last month. He was studying neurosciences.

University spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery confirms Holmes was a graduate student at the school of medicine until last month. On May 8, he was scheduled to present a paper on MicroRNA biomarkers for a class on psychiatric and neurological disorders…

…The suspect lives at an apartment about four miles from the theater where the shootings took place and in view of Children’s Hospital, where some victims were taken.

The suspect told authorities there were explosives at his apartment, which was quickly surrounded by police, The Denver Post reports.

Police said the apartment was booby-trapped with a “pretty sophisticated device” and evacuated about five apartment buildings in the area.
