It's Good Friday which means most of you are off and will be getting together with family and friends today to cook your favorite non-meat meals. I have compiled a little list of some of the most popular things people cook today.

Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

What are the most popular items cooked today?

Of course, boiled crawfish.

But with the unseasonably cold weather this year, Crawfish has been in high demand but not that easy to get at a good price.  Early in the year, crawfish prices here in Southwest Louisiana were the highest I have ever seen in my life and I have been here in this area all my life.

Prices were North of $7.50 a pound boiled which caused some people to stroke out and mess their consons'. The prices have come down to about $4.99 a pound boiled and cooked or about $3.00 a pound live.

Other popular items that are easier on your wallet are Shrimp, various types of fish or even a Sauce piquante.

Of course us Cajuns, we loved to fry things.  So expect that if you go to a Good Friday cookout, you will a vast variety of fried shrimp, fried catfish, and fried bass.

Some will opt for a catfish Coubillion or a turtle sauce piquante.  Whatever you decide just make sure and enjoy yourself with your family and friends and remember why you get to celebrate this day!  Happy Easter everyone!
