Meet The New Pokes That Signed With McNeese Today
McNeese filled some needs on the football team today during the early signing period of recruiting.
Today, many high school football players across the country signed with their chosen universities during the early signing period. Universities will have the last three days of this week to get players inked in to play at their programs.
McNeese is in a transition period right now as former head coach Frank Wilson resigned before signing day to accept a position at LSU. I'm sure the uncertainty of who the new coach will be might have McNeese commits playing the waiting game.
McNeese Deputy Athletic Director Tanner Stines.addressed this in a press release:
I am excited about the commitment that these young men have made to McNeese. Despite the recent changes and transition with the head coaching position, these student-athletes chose McNeese not because of a person but because of the rich history and tradition of Cowboy Football. With young men like this and those who are currently on this team, our best days are ahead of us.
The Cowboys have signed four players on the first day of the early signing period. These are also the only players expected to sign with McNeese during the next three days.
Jalyn Easton - Offensive Lineman - 6-5, 295 - Lake Charles College Prep
Click here to see Jalyn's highlights.
Jalyn played both guard and tackle at LCCP. He's very strong and devastates anyone who he gets his hands on. I love how he plays to the whistle and how most of his blocks end in a grass back or pancake.
Joseph Ward Jr. - Defensive Back - 5-11, 170 - Lake Charles College Prep
Ward is a very quick DB that doesn't shy away from contact. He will not only be an asset in defending the pass but the run game as well.
Jayce Bludau - Linebacker - 6-1, 220 - Kilgore Community College
Bludau has a nose for the ball and attacks anyone carrying it. For the majority of his plays, it looks like he's been shot out of a canon and he's always looking to lay the wood on ball carriers.
Marcus McElroy Jr. - Running Back - 6-0, 235 - Colorado State
McElroy is very fast for his size. Most DBs take a bad angle when chasing him after he breaks the line of scrimmage. His long steps make it seem like he isn't moving very fast, that's until the defensive players are looking at the back of his jersey with a front-row seat of him scoring.
Stines also explained the reasoning for not signing a full class at this time:
I sat down and talked to a lot of the young men, their parents, or their high school coaches and explained to them that signing day is a once in a lifetime moment and that they owe it to themselves and to the university to wait and form a new relationship with our incoming staff and coaches, despite their love for Cowboy Football, fit and their future matters more. We hope to sign many of them on the February signing date.
College signing periods are always so exciting to see how your favorite colleges are loading up for the future. These are four solid signings that will improve the Cowboys next season and for years to come.
I wrote an article last week about who I think should be the next head coach for McNeese. And I think my choice will shock you, click here to read all about it.
