In a press release today, it was announced that McNeese has elected to suspend all sports for the fall season. This tough decision comes after the Southland Conference Board of Directors made a decision to opt-out of intercollegiate sports across the entire conference.

The Southland Conference isn't the only conference to suspend games. The Big 12 and Pac 10 already made their announcements of canceling at the beginning of the week. The cancellation from the Southland Conference still allows for each college to compete, but McNeese is opting-out of all competitions for the entire fall season.

Interim Director of Athletics and basketball head coach, Heath Schroyer, said in the press release that they have consulted with medical experts and feel that this is the right decision for the college to make. Even though the season is canceled for the Cowboys and Cowgirls, the teams will remain engaged in athletic practices and workouts in order to prepare for a possible spring competition at the beginning of the year.

The impact from the decision not only affects the actual teams, but also the groups involved with the games: cheer, band, alumni, kickers, and staff. Schroyer understands it will be a difficult fall as a result, but feels it is the safest decision for the entire sports division of McNeese.

The McNeese ticket office will be making an announcement shortly on what plan of action ticket holders can take for the fall season.
