This past Wednesday, the Southland Conference held the annual media day for the football programs to come represent their teams, and it is a prerequisite to the upcoming season.

During the conference, coaches and players from the different Southland football programs come together to meet with each other and also to address the media and answer questions while promoting their football programs.

The meeting also features a preseason poll where Southland Conference league head coaches and sports information directors vote on where they think the programs will finish at the end of the season.

The McNeese Cowboys were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll even after coming off their 15th consecutive winning season in the FCS.

Today, the McNeese Cowboys football team will meet as a full squad for the first time for the first day of walkthroughs approved by the NCAA.  The team will not be allowed to dress in pads or helmets, but can include the use of a football.

The Pokes' first day of preseason fall camp will be on Friday, August 7 and will continue until the season opening game against the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette, currently scheduled for September 5.
