It was a big weekend in Lake Charles as the McNeese Cowboys football team had their first home game of the season. It all started on Friday night with the Cowboy Block Party.

The block party was packed full of McNeese Football fans and concertgoers enjoying a night out. Live on stage was the Chee Weez and they had the grove kicking all evening. The grove was packed with folks and the students showed up big along with all the fraternities and sororities were represented well too.

Remember the Cowboy Block parties are free to attend and you can bring your chairs and ice chests with your favorite drinks too.

On Saturday, fans flocked to the tailgate areas by the football stadium to start their parting before the football game. Fans were treated to a tradition brought back by the McNeese Athletic Department, the Cowboy walk.

What is the Cowboy walk you ask? It was the band, cheerleaders, cowgirl kickers, and the entire football team walking through the tailgate area for fans. The team walked down the main road of the tailgate area led by head coach Gary Goff while the band played the fight song and Jolie Blon as they passed through. It was awesome to see it come back.

The other tradition brought back this season was done right before the kick-off of the game. The McNeese Mystery Rider was back. It's a cowboy dressed in all black with a mask on a horse and he and the horse enter the stadium and gallop around the entire football field. it's something to see.

Unfortunately, the game didn't go McNeese's way as they lost to Alcorn State. Good news though Cowboy fans, we are going to do it all over again this upcoming weekend when the Cowboy Block party kicks off on Friday night with Three Thirty-Seven and then McNeese will host Mississippi College Saturday night at 7;00 pm in Cowboy stadium.
